Connecting with the community at Yatala Car Boot Markets

The Advanced Resource Recovery Centre (ARRC) team recently took the conversation on the road, joining locals at the Yatala Car Boot Markets to talk waste, recycling and the future of resource recovery on the Gold Coast.
Held just down the road from the future ARRC precinct, the pop-up provided a valuable opportunity to connect with people who live, work and travel through the Yatala–Stapylton area. Conversations ranged from everyday recycling and composting to how modern waste facilities operate, with consistently positive sentiment from those who stopped to chat.
ARRC’s Head of Community and Reputation, Greer Quinn, said the informal setting made room for practical, down-to-earth conversations.
“The market gave us a great opportunity to meet people where they already are and talk about ARRC in a way that’s simple and relevant,” Greer said.
“What really stood out was how positive and engaged people were. Once they understood the project, there was strong interest in what it could deliver for the region.”
She said being close to the future site helped bring the project to life.
“Being able to point to where the precinct will be made it tangible. It helped people connect the project with what it means for our community’s future.”
Greer said the Yatala pop-up was part of a broader program of engagement across the Gold Coast, with more opportunities planned in the months ahead.
“We’re just getting started,” she said. “There will be more opportunities for people to come and speak with us, ask questions and stay informed as the project progresses.”
