New kit improves composting process at ARRC Organics

At ARRC Organics, recent investments in new machinery are improving how green waste is processed, making operations more efficient and outputs more consistent.

As the operator of the facility, Phoenix Power Recyclers’ Chief Operating Officer Chris Alexander, said the recently purchased slow-speed shredder breaks down incoming green waste into a uniform size before it enters the composting tunnels.

“This supports a smoother composting process and improves overall efficiency,” Chris said.

“We also recently trialled a new scalper, designed to screen soil and compost into a cleaner, finer product ready for reuse.

“Even in heavy, wet conditions, the machine handled material with ease, reducing blockages and keeping operations moving.”

Together, these upgrades mean faster processing, more consistent output and less downtime after rain.

Improving how the facility processes organics is key to delivering reliable, high-quality products back into the region.

Located in the Yatala Industrial Precinct, ARRC Organics processes green bin material, along with food processing, agricultural and other organic waste, into high-quality compost used across the region.

The facility is owned by ARRC Organics and operated by Phoenix Power Recyclers, highlighting a strong partnership delivering large-scale organics recovery and sustainable waste solutions.

“It’s the only facility in Queensland to incorporate an Advanced Composting Plant, an enclosed system operating in a controlled atmosphere to minimise odour impacts,” Chris said.

ARRC Organics can process more than 60,000 tonnes of organic waste each year.

Compared to landfill, this reduces CO₂ emissions from green waste processing by more than 50%.
